Privacy Policy
ThriftAI helps resellers estimate what a thrift or clearance item is worth, keeps track of the items they've appraised, and follows their market prices over time. It is operated by Eric T. Morris ("we", "us") and is currently in an invite-only beta. This page explains what information the app handles, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and the choices you have.
In short:
• To use the beta you create a small account (your name and email).
• The photos you appraise are sent to an AI service, and they are saved to your private list so you can come back to them. You can delete any item, or your whole account, at any time.
• No ads, no tracking, and we never sell your information.
What we collect and why
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name and email address, plus the date you agreed to this policy | To run the invite-only beta, send you your personal link, and contact you about your access. |
| Your sign-in link and code (we store only a scrambled version) and a sign-in session for each device you use | To let you into the app without a password and keep you signed in. |
| Photos you take or choose (items and price tags), and the results of each appraisal | To identify the item and read the tag, and to keep it in your saved list. |
| Details you add or change, such as the tag price, item status and notes | To calculate your maximum buy price and profit, and to organize your list. |
| Market price checks for your saved items, over time | To show you how an item's value changes while you decide whether to sell it. |
| Your name, email address and message, if you use the contact form (no account needed) | To read your message and reply to you. It is emailed to us and not added to your account. |
| A count of appraisals you run each day | To apply a fair daily limit during the beta. |
| Your eBay connection (only if you connect it) and the listings you ask us to create | To create and publish eBay listings that you request. |
| Standard technical data, such as IP address and request time | Our hosting providers log this to keep the service running and secure. |
Who receives it
- Anthropic receives your photos and a short instruction so its Claude AI can identify the item. Anthropic's terms for its API say that content sent through the API is not used to train its models by default. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- eBay receives item search keywords to return comparable listings. If you connect your own eBay account, it also receives the listings you create and handles your sign-in itself; we never see your eBay password. See eBay's privacy notice.
- Render hosts the ThriftAI server that processes your requests.
- Neon hosts the database where your account, photos, saved items and price history are stored.
- Hostek hosts this website and our email. Your address is used to send you a sign-up confirmation and your personal invitation link, through our thriftai@erictmorris.com mailbox, and replies to those emails reach us there.
- Vinted: ThriftAI does not send data to Vinted. The "List on Vinted" feature copies text to your clipboard and opens Vinted's own page, where Vinted's policies apply.
We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. We use your email only to send your beta invitation and occasional updates about the beta.
Who can see your data
Your saved items and photos are private to your account; other testers cannot see them. As the operator, we can see your name, email, sign-up date, when you last used the app and how many items you've saved. We can technically access the database, but we do not look at your photos or items except when needed to fix a problem, protect the service, or comply with the law.
How long we keep it
- Saved items, photos and price history: until you delete the item or delete your account.
- Your account: until you delete it, or until the beta ends and we remove it.
- Deleting your account (Account tab → Delete my account and data) immediately and permanently erases your account, saved items, photos, price history and eBay connection from our database. Our database provider may keep short-lived backups for a limited time afterward.
- eBay listing photos: when you create an eBay listing, the photos are also held temporarily at private, hard-to-guess web addresses so eBay can fetch them. They expire after 24 hours or when the server restarts. Once published, eBay keeps its own copies under its policies.
- Email records: we keep a note that an email was sent to you (the date and type, not the message itself) with your account until you delete it.
- Contact messages: they stay in our email inbox until we delete them. Ask us to delete yours at any time.
- Server logs: our hosting providers keep routine logs for a limited time under their own policies.
Your device
- Camera: used only when you tap the camera button.
- Photos: the app reads only the pictures you choose, and saves pictures to your library only when you tap the Vinted save/share button.
- Local storage: your sign-in session is saved in your device's app or browser storage. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Personal links: your link contains your sign-in code. Treat it like a password and don't share it. If you lose it or think someone else has it, ask us for a new one; creating a new link cancels the old one.
Your choices
- Delete an item from its detail page, or delete your account from the Account tab.
- Sign out from the Account tab. This ends that device's session.
- Disconnect eBay from the Account tab, and also revoke ThriftAI under Authorized Apps in your eBay account if you wish.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or for help deleting it, by emailing us at the address below.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Sign-in codes and sessions are stored in scrambled form, and any eBay connection token is encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, so please avoid photographing anything sensitive, such as people, documents or card numbers.
Children
ThriftAI is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date above, and let beta testers know if the change is significant.
